Computer Music for Dummies

Computer music for Dummies is an inclusive music workshop for participants of all ages. No prior experiences with electronic music practice are necessary. The workshop is a playful introduction to the world of electronic music using the computer as a musical instrument and the open source software Welle to practice live-coding. Computer music will be introduced and the participants will be invited to explore pattern-based music composition. At the end of the workshop all participants present their work as audio recording or live performance to the group.

The workshop was developed during the research project Tangible Signals and was conducted at the Institute for the Blind in Vienna, at the OCC Computer Camp 2019, and at the DIWO week by Metaknoten in Dresden 2024.

The workshop is barrier-free for people with or without visual impairments. Requirements are a computer and headphones. No software installation is necessary, we use the web environment welle.live
